We are building Minerva so our daughters can have it all

As International Women's Day rolls around, it's easy to get swept up in the sea of posts celebrating this special occasion. It's heartening to see the spotlight on women, illuminating both our triumphs and ongoing struggles. Yet, I find myself dreaming of a day when our society is so equitable for women that dedicating a special month to us feels like a relic of the past.

Our society has changed tremendously in just the last few decades - 25% of families were dual income in 1960 compared to over 60% today1. Yet, we continue to fall back on centuries-old gender roles, with women doing more than their fair share of parenting and kin-keeping while working full-time.

Aspiration for "better for women" is often misconstrued as a zero-sum game - that gains for women must come at the expense of men. This is not only incorrect but harmful to collective progress towards a new normal. Achieving true equity means creating environments where both women and men can thrive and support one another's passions.

This is why we at Minerva are reimagining modern parenting solutions to go beyond merely patching up the old ways. We're not content with daydreaming; we're actively forging paths that enable both parents to flourish together, aiding in the intricate balance of responsibility and ambition.

And as we chart this course towards new horizons, I am excited to welcome Uma Sekar as a co-founder. Her deep expertise as a startup founder in guiding parents through the financial maze of raising a family—from the blissful arrival of a new baby to the unexpected expenses of summer camps—feels like destiny aligning with our vision. Uma's addition promises to enrich our mission, offering families more comprehensive and impactful support.

So, this International Women's Day, let's not just celebrate; let's commit to creating a world where our choices are dictated not by outdated gender roles, but by our dreams and capabilities. At Minerva, our dedication to building an ecosystem where women, alongside their partners, can navigate their paths freely and boldly is unwavering. We are building a better world for our daughters, so they can have all that they want.
